It is one of the 7 selected projects from 62 proposals by the City Council and the La Caixa Foundation. Barcelona City Council and “La Caixa” Foundation have awarded grants this Monday for calls for extraordinary grants for scientific research projects to seven project proposals with a budget of one million euros intended to cover the grant program of the call within the framework of the “Barcelona Science Plan 2020-2023”.
A total of 62 proposals have been submitted to this call (57 finally accepted), 7 of which will receive funding. The call asked for proposals for projects based on the search for urban challenges that could be included in any of the following topics: aging and quality of life; mobility and respect for and protection of the environment and the sustainable city: new technologies applied to housing, space and public services.
One of the selected projects to receive funding has been led by the UdL’s IT4S research group. The “Verd de proximitat BCN” project aims to design and implement a plan for monitoring and evaluating the operation and impacts of green roofs in the city of Barcelona, which will be inclusive and participatory, economically viable and sustainable over time and will receive a financing of about 146,000 euros.
The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya is also collaborating in the initiative; the Verdtical bioconstruction company; the green roof’s enterprise Eixverd, and the cooperative group of social initiative Teb verd. The grants were awarded this Monday at an event held at the Saló de Cent of the Barcelona City Council, chaired by Deputy Mayor Jordi Martí and the corporate director of the research area of the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation, Mr. Àngel Font.
